Owning Scotland

What a great way to celebrate St Andrew’s Day by becoming a Scottish Landowner. Yes indeed! Having taken advantage of a Black Friday deal on a couple of bottles of Single Malt, I suddenly find myself the Laird and lifetime leaseholder of one square foot of Islay, tucked up close to the Laphroaig Distillery.

If you’re nearby anytime, just drop in – it will be a pleasure to welcome you to my plot, as long as you are quite slim and have small feet. I’m officially a lifetime friend of Laphroaig who generously offer to pay my ground rent in the sum of one dram of Laphroaig, to be claimed in person at the distillery.

Of course, should Scotland attain independence at some time in the future, it’s good to know I will be able to cross the border unimpeded, as a local landowner. It pays to have a foot over the border, even if it’s only one square foot.
