Lasers in the Jungle

Coincidence, or what?  Just a few days after “Graceland’ featured as a ‘my favourite album’ in The Guardian, The Independent reminds us that it’s 25yrs ago this month (August 2011) that the album was released.  “It sounds like it could have been made yesterday,” says Marc Eliot, author of a biography of Paul Simon.  It seems strange to remember that the album was released five years before Nelson Mandela, and that it generated so much controversy at the time due to the UN boycott of South Africa.  In retrospect, it now seems to represent some of the cultural stirrings in the Rainbow Nation, and has now taken on an iconic status.
